Marijuana and Mozart mix to mellow Denver

GLYNDEBOURNE has its picnics and Pimm’s; champagne corks pop at the Proms. And when the Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) opened its season on Friday with Also Sprach Zarathustra, many patrons felt that the kick of a powerful marijuana strain called Golden Goat would have paired elegantly with Strauss’s resounding fanfare.

The orchestra, one of America’s most prestigious, is encouraging music lovers to bring their own marijuana to an invitation-only fundraising concert series called Classically Cannabis, which will climax with a “weed friendly” performance at Denver’s spectacular open-air Red Rocks amphitheatre later this summer.

It is a startling indicator of the speed with which the drug is losing its stigma in a state that had approved its sale for recreational as well as medical use only
